Selective Asian hornet trap equipped with selective access modules (used)

These second-hand traps are in perfect working order and, unlike so-called selective bottle traps and thanks to the precise calibration of the entrance, allow the Asian hornet to be targeted only, allowing all other insects that enter to escape.

The Selective Capture Device for Asian Hornets induces the death of the latter by a rapid slowdown of the metabolism in less than 36 hours after its introduction into the cage. A few hours for the queens.

The capture cage consists of four elements (starting from the bottom):
1- The bait tank.
2- The equipped capture tank:
- a bottom covered with fine mesh to prevent any access to the bait (fixed with rivets),
- Selective Access Modules (MAS or cones) facing each other in the longest length to optimize the circulation of effluvia. The hornet enters but cannot exit. Only the Asian hornet insect can be trapped. Any other insect can exit through the holes in the MAS.
3 - The roof to close the catch tank and protect from bad weather.

The Selective Access Modules are fixed to the cage on either side by rivets. Composition of the MAS:
A funnel in the shape of a pyramidal trunk attached to a perforated base plate.
The perforated plate allows bees and other insects smaller than the Asian hornet to pass through more easily when exiting than when entering, thanks to an adapted slope of the mesh and in the best conditions of ease and speed.

The thin and selective end of the mesh pyramid trunk, directed towards the inside of the capture tank allows the easy passage of Asian hornet queens because it is perfectly calibrated to the thorax of an AF queen while preventing that of a European hornet queen. The depth of the pyramid trunk of the module and its fully ventilated structure is long enough to prevent the AF from finding the exit (trap principle).

The bait is made of honeyed waxes for the best effectiveness (crop caps or finely broken honey frames) which must be protected by fine mesh to prevent access to all insects. It can also be used depending on the time of year as bait in the form of proteins or carbohydrates (blackcurrant syrup, brown beer).

We invite you to add a board (wood or metal) on the wider roof (10 cm on each side) if the trap is not protected from the rain. This will prevent rainwater from entering the bait tank and will make it effective for longer.
